Manayunk holidays offer fun, wares

On Saturday, Dec. 1, the Manayunk Development Center at 4312 Main St. will host the second annual Holidays in Manayunk. The event will feature events and performances designed to get people into the spirit of the holiday.

Visitors will also be able to complete their holiday shopping locally while enjoying live music and festive activities.

Two events will be held on Main Street; Santa on Ice, from 1 to 4 p.m., and the tree-lighting ceremony from6 to 8 p.m.

Visitors will see a version of Santa's sleigh carved by a master ice sculpting artist from Fear No Ice, a Philadelphia-based ice design company. After the ice show, children can sit on Santa's lap while he sits on the freshly carved ice sculpture, and have pictures taken to add to the holiday fun.

At stores along the strip, shoppers can buy anything from winter clothes to household items. Whether you need that last-minute sweater, or a new toaster oven to complete your shopping list, Manayunk is sure to have it.

To sum up the day, the tree-lighting ceremony will be started with the help of holiday performances by carolers, who will be traveling up and down Main Street before the tree is lit. Along with live music, holiday music will be also be provided by B101, and hot beverages will help visitors stay warm. More activities are planned at Canal View Park, near the intersection of Main and Gay streets.

This event is sponsored by East River Bank. For more information, visit, or call (215) 482-9565.
