You vs. weight gain: Hypnosis can help

Would you like to make healthy changes in the new y and finally reach your goals?

Susan Lembo, certified hypnocounselor of Effortless Hypnosis in West Mt. Airy offers Weight Loss Hypnosis, a series of four classes that provide weight loss support and deeply relaxing and effective hypnosis sessions each week. Lembo created these classes for people who want to lose holiday weight and get on track to be more fit in 2013.

“Why is it that most people do not keep their New Year’s resolutions? Because they do not know how to change their habitual behavior,” she said. “They know what they’d like to do, but they do not know how to reach their goals.”

These classes, held four Mondays out of each month, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., teach people how to make lifestyle changes, such as mindfulness around food choices, smaller portions, motivation to exercise and feeling in control around food, which will lead to weight loss.

“Everyone knows if you exercise and make better food choices, you will lose weight, but people often resist doing what’s best for them,” Lembo said. “The mind is like a computer — it does whatever it is programmed to do. In the hypnotic state, we are able to ‘reprogram’ the subconscious mind and realign it with your best intentions to lose weight.”

Anyone, who is interested in losing weight is welcomed to try weight loss hypnosis. Sometimes, mothers and their sons and daughters take the class together, to support each other in their new behaviors.

“Class participants discuss their specific food issues in each class,” Lembo said. “Most people have similar challenges with sugar, carbs, portion sizes and lack of motivation to exercise.”

Lembo will include these topics in the sessions to help people to see them as “non-food items.” During the sessions, she will also include guided imagery and progressive relaxation to bring the class into a very relaxed and open state of mind. Once the participants are relaxed, the subconscious mind is open to suggestion and preferred behaviors are easy and automatic. After hypnosis, people will react differently and find it easier to stay away from the “non-food items.”

“The odds are very good that weight loss hypnosis will work,” Lembo said. “Most people begin to notice they can make better food choices after the first session. They should expect to be on track with exercise and begin to lose weight during the class sessions. It is highly motivating.”
