State Sen. LeAnna Washington will again offer two opportunities to get help during tax season.
First, low-income constituents may receive free tax preparation services for single and family filings at her district offices (no stock transactions, profit or loss statements, rental income or business income).
Constituents can receive tax help at the Roslyn office each Monday until April 17 and at the Wadsworth Avenue office each Wednesday until April 17. Those who wish to participate must register at (215) 242-0472.
“So many of my constituents have found our tax preparation services to help ease the stress of tax season and I am so pleased that we are able to offer them again this year,” Washington said.
Second, Thane C. Martin, a Certified Public Accountant, will provide two tax preparation seminars in the district. The first will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Upper Room Baptist Church (7236 Ogontz Ave., Philadelphia) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The second seminar will take place on Saturday, March 30 at the Mt. Airy Church of God in Christ (6401 Ogontz Ave., Philadelphia) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Martin will provide information on strategies to reduce one’s tax burden, what it means to be audited by the IRS, what deductions one may qualify for, and how filing for bankruptcy affects your taxes.
Martin will also be accompanied by IRS-trained tax professionals to provide free tax preparation services for those in attendance.
“These tax planning seminars are designed to help constituents plan more effectively for the tax season,” Washington said. “Even if you have already filed your 2012 taxes, this seminar may help you save money on future tax filings.”
Both the seminar and the preparation are free of charge, but seating is limited. Constituents must call (215) 242-0472 to reserve a space.
