2 arrested in murder of north Philly market clerk

PHILADELPHIA — Authorities say a man and a woman have been arrested in the murder of a clerk shot to death in the north Philadelphia store in which she worked.

Police said Tuesday that 20-year-old Raymond Soto and 19-year-old Eliana Vazquez were taken into custody in the murder of 33-year-old Rosemary Fernandez-Rivera.

She was gunned down by a masked man Jan. 23 inside the Caribe Mini Market in the Kensington section of the city.

Officials said Soto was being charged with murder, criminal conspiracy and related offenses. Vazquez was being charged with conspiracy and related offenses.

Family members and neighbors have said that the victim had been interviewed in the November murder of 22-year-old Luis Chevere near the store. Twenty-three-year-old Jorge Aldea was arrested Friday in New York City in that case. -- (AP)
