Southwest shooting victim identified

Homicide detectives have identified a man who was shot to death in the city’s Southwest Philadelphia section Friday afternoon.

The deadly shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of South Yewdall Street. Officers from the 12th Police District were called to the vicinity in response to a report of a man being shot on the street. He has been identified as Khalil Braheem Wallace, 24, of the 5900 block of Springfield Avenue. Wallace had been shot multiple times. He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m.

As of Tribune press time police have no motive and no suspects.

In another unrelated murder investigation homicide detectives are working to determine who shot a 35-year-old Black male in the head and why.

The fatal shooting happened on Saturday, July 21, in the 800 block of East Woodlawn Street around 9:42 p.m.

The victim has been identified as Bryant Purnell, of the 1900 block of Faunce Street. Purnell was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m. Purnell had a lengthy arrest and incarceration record going back to 1997. Court documents show arrests for burglary, theft, aggravated assault, narcotics offenses, and criminal conspiracy.

In another unrelated homicide investigation detectives said that a domestic dispute led to another deadly shooting over the weekend.

The incident happened on Sunday, July 22, just after 5 a.m. in the 5000 block of North 16th Street. Police responded to a report of a person with a gun and when they arrived at the scene the found the victim lying on the floor of a residence dying from multiple gunshot wounds. He has been identified as Andrew Khemdy, a 22-year-old Asian male who resided there. Khemdy was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics.

Police have a suspect in custody.
