Ronald Fernando Allen Sr. was a devoted family man.
Allen died March 17, 2012. He was 80.
He was born in Philadelphia on June 15, 1931, to the late James and Edna Allen. He was the second oldest of seven children.
He was affectionately called “Pop” by his grandchildren and often referred to himself as the “Good Ron.”
Allen was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from Overbrook High School. He received advanced technical training. While he had several jobs during his career, he worked as a machinist for the Combination Pump and Valve Company in West Philadelphia for 24 years and retired in 1998. He also worked for many years transporting new cars for a large Philadelphia dealership before and after his retirement.
He married Mary Jackson in 1952, and from this union Ron Jr. was born. He remained Allen’s only child until he remarried. It was then he was blessed with his daughter, Ronsanel.
Allen was always willing and able to help his family in any way that he could. He was a neighborhood fixture who was known by all.
In addition to his children, Allen is survived by his daughter-in-law, Jean; grandsons, Ronald (Michelle), Rajieb, Ian and Chris; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Connie and Venita; brothers, Chester, Eugenio and Ray; niece, Edena (Darryl); and other relatives and friends.
Services were held March 30 at Beulah Baptist Church. Burial was in Eden Cemetery, Collingdale, Pa.
