Robert C. Harvey served in the United States Army.
Harvey died April 1, 2012. He was 84.
He was born July 10, 1927, in Warm Springs, Ga., to the late Charles Harvey and Bessie Branch. He later moved to Philadelphia.
Harvey was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945. He served from 1945 to 1955 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Upon his discharge, he worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as a supply specialist until his retirement.
His family said he was a loving but proud and strict man. Because of his struggles as a young child, he instilled the importance of discipline and hard work, his family said.
Harvey enjoyed bowling, basketball and playing cards.
He married Catherine A. Taylor in 1951. From this marriage, six children were born.
Harvey was preceded in death by his son, Michael and his brother, James.
He is survived by his children, Robert, Antoinette, Steven, Alvin and Cathy; brother, Charles and sister-in-law of Syracuse, N.Y.; sister, Doris; grandchildren, Robert, David, Kendel, Alana, Lauren, Cameron, Juanita, Michelle, Michael, Cymone and Cidney; two granddaughters-in-law, Shenik and Andrea; five great-grandchildren, Breeana, Kayla, Sabria, Kristian and Robert James; great-great grandchildren, Cyniah and Cayden; three daughters-in-law, Sharon, Cynthia and Juanita; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held April 10 at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 2001 West Lehigh Avenue. Viewing is at 9 a.m. Services will follow at 11.
