Cynthia Belcher, 66, natural leader

Cynthia Gail Belcher worked for more than 25 years in the banking industry.

Belcher died May 1, 2012, at Seasons Hospice in Phoenixville Hospital of Pennsylvania. She was 66.

She was born March 20, 1946, in Philadelphia as the first child of Earl and Novella Pearson. The family resided in West Philadelphia and later moved to Lansdowne, Pa.

Educated in the public school system and a private high school, Belcher was an excellent student and natural leader. She attended Morgan State University and did course work at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia with studies in business administration.

Belcher attended and was married at Saint Matthews AME Church in West Philadelphia. She worked extensively with the youth there as well as in her neighborhood during summer youth programs.

She worked as a lease administrator and credit manager in banking. She held those positions with Germantown Savings Bank and Girard (now Mellon) Bank. Belcher was respected and loved by her many friends and coworkers for her always pleasant and exceedingly kind and professional demeanor. One of her many community awards and commendations was that of being inducted into the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Membership for her service to the community as a banker.

Her interests in the arts included music, film and literature.

Even as her own health challenges increased through the years she would often inquire as to the welfare of her old friends which was indicative of her kind and thoughtful nature.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Edward M. Belcher Jr.; her siblings and their spouses, Dr. Earl P. Pearson and his wife, Deborah of East Norriton; Lydia P. Abdullah (Pearson) and her husband, Gary of State College Pa., and Michael K. Pearson of Philadelphia.  

Services will be held May 7. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 5537-39 West Girard Avenue. Services will follow at 11. Burial is in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Wood Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
