Dr. Harold C. Whitney was a psychologist for the School District of Philadelphia.
He died May 20, 2012, after a brief hospitalization at Pennsylvania Hospital. He was 79.
He was born April 21, 1933, in Philadelphia, as the second son of Estelle Davidson and Theodore Roosevelt Whitney.
He graduated from Cheyney University and worked for 31 years for the Philadelphia School District, rising from classroom teacher to a psychologist.
Always charitable, his final gift was the donation of his body to medical science in hopes to find the cure for scleroderma.
His family said he loved music, theater, the Penn Relays and worldwide travel. He was a lifelong member of the NAACP and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Whitney was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Wesley.
He is survived by one sister and three brothers, Mabel, Theodore, Carleton and Donald; four sisters-in-law, Florence, Elizabeth, Carolyn and Elaine; nine nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.
