Willie Mae Wilson, 78, loving caregiver

Willie Mae Wilson died June 10, 2012, in the nursing home where she had been a resident. She was 78.

She was born in Sumter, S.C., on Jan. 7, 1934. She came to Philadelphia in the late 1950s to be with her mother, Fannie Wilson, who preceded her in death.

Wilson was the caregiver for her mother for many years until her death March 10, 2005, at the age of 89. She continued to be caregiver to other residents in the senior citizen complex where she lived until her illness on January 27. She had a stroke and heart attack and was diagnosed as having brain cancer. She had been treated for lung cancer about a year and a half earlier.

She is survived by her brother, Junior Wilson; aunt, Elizabeth Hudgins; niece, Devora Waters; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held June 19 at Slater Funeral Home, 1426 Fitzwater Street. Viewing is at 10 a.m. Services will follow at 11. Burial will be in Merion Memorial Park cemetery, Bryn Mawr Ave. and West Rockhill Road, Bala Cynwyd. A repast will be held at 1406 South 16th Street.
