It may have taken them a century, but finally a School District of Philadelphia school has won the state title in boys’ A basketball. Yet that was not the only stellar news for the district. Additional schools from District XII won state titles.

The winning teams: Constitution High School, A boys; Archbishop Carroll High School, AAA girls; Saints John Neumann and Maria Goretti High School, AA boys; Imhotep Institute Charter High School, AA boys, and Archbishop Wood High School, AA girls.

Additionally, Northeast High School’s bowling team won back-to-back Public League championships. The team is coached by Karen Barrett. The girls of the BWSF Afterschool Program hope to mirror the bowling team’s accolade by cinching titles in the Ed Snider Youth Ice Hockey Program this month.

Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League awarded the three high schools that won football championships 1,000 tickets to their opener on Saturday, March 30. Those recognized were George Washington, Muriel Dobbins and Edward W. Bok high schools.

Congratulations are in order for early athletic scholarship recipients. Bok students Marqui Alfriend and Marquise Brown earned full scholarships to Stevens Technical Junior College in Lancaster. Robert Kralle has received a full football and academic scholarship to Bloomsburg University.

Also, seniors Jihad Ward, Omar Bashir and Shaquill Sammons have been awarded partial scholarships to the Globe Institute Technical Junior College in New York.
