Philadelphia public school parents will be recognized at the Third Annual “Celebrating Parents, Celebrating Families” event hosted by the Northwest Community Coalition for Youth (NCCY) and its partners this month. The event will take place at the Philadelphia Center for Arts & Technology, 2111–31 Eastburn Ave. in West Oak Lane on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Besides honoring parents, there will be an array of information disseminated at the Resource Fair. Featured workshops will include “Family Finances,” “Truancy Parenting” and “Nutrition.” The guest speakers during the opening welcome and continental breakfast session will be Imhotep Charter School head Christine Thomas-Wiggins and Judge Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde.

“This event began as a truancy prevention initiative,” said Isabella Fitzgerald, the NCCY community organizer. “It recognized that truancy, chronic truancy, is only a symptom of other issues in the home. Through this event we seek to provide resources for all parents.

“We provide information for those struggling, challenged families that will help them move form crisis to stability. Please share information with any parents so they might benefit from the event,” Fitzgerald said.
