The “Jazz Jive Praise” concert series at Tindley Temple UMC features live musical performances
that reflect the rich creative heritage and cultural linkages between spirituals, sacred and gospel music,
and jazz. The upcoming Mother’s Day musical experience is entitled “The Organ Sanctuary of Jazz,”
and will honor such notable Philadelphia jazz organ artists as Jimmy Smith, Charles Earland, Shirley Scott,
Trudy Pitts and others who were influential in taking organ music from church pulpits to jazz stages around
the world.
This café styled performance will feature James Stewart on tenor and soprano saxaphone, Patrick Rickman
on trumpet and flugal horn, Wali Ali on guitar and vocals, Webb Thomas, percussion and Dan Kostelnik
on the organ.
